1. About KG+SELECT 2027
KG+SELECT 2027 is an open-call program that selects approximately ten finalists through a jury review. Each selected artist will receive a production grant of JPY 200,000 and participate in a group exhibition during KYOTOGRAPHIE / KG+ 2027.
During the festival, the jury will visit the exhibition and select one KG+SELECT Award Winner. The award recipient will be invited to present an exhibition as part of the official program of KYOTOGRAPHIE 2028.

[Eligibility]
- Applications are open regardless of age, profession, nationality, experience, or whether applicants are self-nominated or nominated by others.
- Applicants must propose a solo exhibition featuring photography or works incorporating photographic elements, including moving images, installation, or other related media. Applications by artist duos, collectives, or collaborative groups are also welcome.
- There is no theme for the exhibition.
- We welcome a broad range of practices, including (but not limited to): – Fine Art – Conceptual Photography – Contemporary Photography – Documentary Photography

Please complete the online application form available on the KG+ website and submit the required portfolio materials.
【Submission Materials】
Please prepare and submit the following materials through the online application form.
*Submitted materials may be used by the KG+ Secretariat for publicity and promotional purposes.
**If you use an online storage service, please ensure that the sharing permissions are correctly set.
① Text Information (Japanese and English required for all items)
Please provide the following:- 作Artwork title (or series title)
- Exhibition Statement (maximum 600 Japanese characters, with an English translation required; written in the third person. If the original text is written in English, a Japanese translation must also be provided.)
- Artist Biography
- Artist Website (if applicable)
*For collective or group applications, the curator is required to provide the above information.
**After the finalists have been selected, the KG+ Secretariat will edit and proofread all texts in both Japanese and English. At the application stage, it is sufficient to submit an English translation that accurately conveys the content.
②Exhibition Plan (hand-drawn plans accepted)
- Files should be submitted in JPG format.
- Recommended size: A3
- The exhibition plan may be adjusted before the actual exhibition.
- A floor plan (layout drawing) showing the placement of artworks is required.
- Applicants are encouraged to include additional materials that help visualize the exhibition, such as previous installation views, exhibition mock-ups, CG renderings, sketches, or other visual references.
- If your exhibition plan includes text, please provide it in both Japanese and English.
- Please indicate the primary materials and presentation methods of the works (e.g. gelatin silver print, inkjet print, inkjet on Japanese paper, thermal transfer on acrylic, UV print on wood, video installation with sound, projected slideshow, etc.).
③Documentation of the Proposed Exhibition Works
Please submit either artwork documentation, a presentation video, or both.

<Presentation Video>
If submitting a presentation video, please upload it to a video-sharing platform such as YouTube or Vimeo, and enter the URL in the application form.
④Artist Portrait
Please submit one portrait photograph of the applicant.
– Include the applicant’s name (Roman alphabet) in the file name.
– Resolution: 300 dpi
– Recommended image size: 100–150 mm on the longest side

Please upload all materials listed in Sections 2–4 to a single online storage service (such as Google Drive or Dropbox) and provide the shared link in the application form.

Each applicant will receive one KYOTOGRAPHIE 2027 Passport (festival admission pass) per application.
Please note that the application fee is non-refundable, regardless of the selection result.
[Selection Criteria]
Applications will be evaluated comprehensively based on the originality and creativity of the proposed work and approach, as well as the artist’s future potential and artistic development.
3. KG+SELECT Finalist Selection
The jury will review all submitted applications and select approximately ten finalists. Results will be announced on the official KG+ website in early December 2026. Selected finalists will:- Participate in a group exhibition at a shared venue during KYOTOGRAPHIE / KG+ 2027
- Be provided with an exhibition space of approximately 20 m² per artist
- Receive a production grant of JPY 200,000
4. Selection Process & Schedule

*The schedule below is subject to change.
**Throughout the festival, various events, receptions, and official opening and closing parties will be held. Finalists are warmly encouraged to participate. Detailed information will be provided in due course.
5. KG+SELECT Exhibition
Exhibition Period: April 17 (Sat) – May 16 (Sun), 2027
Venue: To be announced
- During the exhibition period, one or two venue staff members will be assigned to oversee the exhibition space.
- Artists and their representatives are not required to be present throughout the exhibition. However, staff will not be assigned to individual exhibition spaces.
- Venue staff will be responsible for turning lighting, projectors, and other equipment on and off each day. Applicants using such equipment are requested to provide clear operating instructions.
- Artwork and publications may be offered for sale during the exhibition. Artists are solely responsible for all sales and financial transactions. KG+ assumes no responsibility or liability for any sales conducted at the venue.
- If additional partition walls or exhibition structures are required, please contact the KG+ Secretariat. These can be arranged for an additional fee.
- Where technically feasible, artists may install additional lighting equipment within their exhibition space. Electrical outlets will be available in each exhibition area.
6. KG+SELECT Award
During the festival, the jury will visit the exhibition and select one KG+SELECT Award Winner.
The recipient will be announced during the KYOTOGRAPHIE × KG+ Award Ceremony, held during the festival’s Opening Week. Please note that the jury reserves the right not to present the award if no proposal is deemed suitable. The recipient of the KG+SELECT Award will be invited to present a solo exhibition as part of the official program of KYOTOGRAPHIE 2028, and will receive the following support:
- Production grant of JPY 500,000
- A solo exhibition as part of the official program of KYOTOGRAPHIE 2028
- Venue and exhibition production support
- Inclusion in the official KYOTOGRAPHIE catalogue
- Public relations and promotional support
7. Terms & Conditions
- Approximately ten finalists are expected to be selected. However, the number of finalists may be adjusted depending on the exhibition venue and the number or quality of applications received.
- Applicants are responsible for all costs related to their exhibition, including (but not limited to) equipment rental, printing, framing, projector rental, transportation, installation, and deinstallation.
- Applicants are responsible for supervising their exhibitions during the festival. The organizer assumes no responsibility for exhibition supervision or related matters.
- KG+ reserves the right to reproduce submitted materials, with appropriate credit, in its website, printed publications, and other promotional materials for publicity purposes.
- If a selected finalist withdraws from the exhibition after confirmation of participation, KG+ reserves the right to charge cancellation costs, including expenses incurred for the reproduction of promotional materials.
- Any claims relating to copyright infringement, intellectual property rights, or damages by third parties shall be the sole responsibility of the applicant. KG+ accepts no liability for such claims.
- All artworks and exhibition materials must be completely removed by the artist within two days after the close of the festival, including arrangements for return shipment. KG+ cannot store artworks after the exhibition period.
8. Additional Information
- Applicants will be eligible for discounted participation in educational programs organized by KYOTOGRAPHIE, including masterclasses and portfolio reviews led by internationally recognized professionals.

- By submitting an application to KG+SELECT, applicants are deemed to have accepted all terms and conditions stated above.
