Tensegrity
Hong Kong has seen drastic changes in the last few years. Tension is thick in the air and staying afloat is a constant struggle. In the face of an ever-changing landscape, we meet our own fragility and question everything. Does the city make us who we are or do we shape the city to our likeness? How do we create this space around us and within ourselves? Are we our own architect? A dancer in the city, depicting human movement over space and time; the body and the buildings housing our emotions and memories, the tension that suspends us, the walls that protect us or keep us in. Hence the title - “Tensegrity”, a term used in both architecture and dance. The work explores how we have been affected by the changes taking place in Hong Kong, capturing our collective memories and our various emotional stages. This video work is also a conversation between dancer, sound, lighting, cinematography, and the environment; real time data was turned to sound and light, and the dancer improvised the movement according to the environment.
