Yuri Shibuya

Tokyo-born photographer Yuri Shibuya has built a body of work in collaboration with skaters in New York City before shifting her focus to Yosemite National Park. Shibuya's perspective has evolved over the past decade, as she spent several months each year in Yosemite, immersing herself in the climbing community. Her photographs capture the unique intimacy and connection between climbers and the landscape, born out of her own climbing experiences. Shibuya's exhibition, titled "Idyllic Moment," reflects the impression her photographs evoke, such as intimacy, peace, and permanence. The exhibition's title also signifies the ability of photography to nostalgically recall past moments and elicit a sense of longing. Shibuya's monochrome photographs convey the nostalgic emotion unique to capturing a specific time and place.
