Yoshikatsu Fujii, Moe Suzuki
RPS Kyoto Paperoles 2024 Exhibition: ①Yoshikatsu Fujii "Nagi", ②Moe Suzuki "Aabuku"
This exhibition consists of two parts: 'Nagi,' a work by Yoshikatsu Fujii that relives the testimony of his grandfather, who created human torpedoes for the Navy in Kure city, and his childhood memories of spending time with his grandfather through photographs of waves; and 'Aabuku,' a work by Moe Suzuki that focuses on water pollution caused by PFAS in Okinawa Prefecture. While each artist pursues their own unique methods of expression, both have received high acclaim for their photobooks. It is also possible to find common themes such as 'memory' , ‘family’ and ‘'social issues' in their works. Although both works in this exhibition deal with the common motifs of 'water' and 'memory,' Fujii challenges abstract expression, while Suzuki's work is based on thorough research and meticulous data collection, presenting viewers with completely different approaches and values. This exhibition is also an attempt to reveal how the two artists' photobooks, which will be published in conjunction with this exhibition, will manifest themselves in the real-world space of the gallery.
