"Épreuves sentimentales" is a photographic - emotional - self-portrait of 120 Japanese women, using disposable photo cameras. Fuji launched its disposable camera in 1986. Famous photographers like Mika Ninagawa, Hiromix or Yurie Nagashima have all published photo books taken with these utsurundesu. Thomas Kimmerlin Poupart’s will to offer disposable cameras to Japanese women revives the desire of the pioneers of the movement, with one simple goal: listen to your emotions. Thus, the only instruction that Thomas gave to the participants was to identify the moment when an emotion arises… and take a photo! This project - started in 2019 - now regroups more than 3,000 images taken by 120 women. Through their photos, the participants share some precious intimate moments: family, spirituality, culture, illness, relationship to nature, love and sex, and of course pandemic times. Eventually, « Epreuves Sentimentales » underlines a state of mind specific to Japan, which runs counter to the westernised mode of expression that tends to impose itself globally. Walking through the thousand of photos in the wonderful century-old private villa of Denshin-an, the visitor will connect strongly with personal emotions and also witness broader challenges that may arise in the Japanese society today. After a premiere in Paris during summer 2023, KG+ 2024 is a great chance for the Japanese public to discover « Epreuves Sentimentales » in Kyōto, Japan. "Épreuves sentimentales "は、120人の日本人女性が自ら使い捨てカメラ「写ルンです」を使って撮影した、“感情的”セルフポートレイトである。 富士フィルムが世界初のレンズ付きフィルムとして「写ルンです」を発売したのは1986年。後に蜷川実花、ヒロミックス、長島有里枝など多くの有名写真家がこの「写ルンです」をこよなく愛し、写真集を出版している。 本プロジェクトは2019年に始まった。 トマ.キメルラン.プパールは、120人の日本人女性に「写ルンです」を手渡し、当時ムーヴメントを巻き起こした先駆的写真家たちの切なる思いを蘇らせようとした。それは－心の声に耳を傾ける－というシンプルな方法によるものだった。 トマが“彼女たち”に指示したことはただ一つ、感情が沸き出たその瞬間に写真を撮ること！ 120人の女性の手によって撮られた写真は累計3,000枚以上に及ぶ。 “彼女たち”は写真を通して、家族・精神性・文化・病・自然との関係・愛とセックス・COVID-19パンデミックなど、“彼女たち”にとって真に親密で貴重な“瞬間”を、我々に共有してくれている。 結局のところ"Épreuves sentimentales "は、押し付けがましくなりがちな西洋的な表現様式の対極にある、日本特有の心情の在り方を浮き彫りにしていると言えるかもしれない。 築100年を超える伝統的な私邸「伝心庵」に飾られた1,000点に及ぶポートレートを介して、“彼女たち”の個人的な感情を、また今日の日本社会で起きるかもしれない大きな挑戦を目にすることだろう。 2023年夏にパリで初開催された後、この度のKG＋2024は日本の皆様がÉpreuves sentimentalesを見出す絶好の機会になるでしょう。
