Kai Iida

The region, which has supported Japan's industrial development, is dotted with a variety of plants in the steel, cement, and chemical industries. These plants are extremely rational and intricately shaped, and their functional and rigorous appearance, devoid of any waste, is even timelessly beautiful. Iida has been photographing the industrial landscape here for more than a decade. The industrial landscape, cut out through simple framing that makes the most of space, is reconstructed as a landscape of somewhere other than here that contains the surrounding atmosphere. By presenting these buildings and their surroundings as a single entity, this exhibition attempts to immerse the viewer in a serene and unreal space.
