Li-Ying CHIU
Fantasy Island in the Reality world
” It would be incredibly lonely and proud when you met your fugitive monologue at a corner of an anonymous island.” This exhibition will hold Li-Ying CHIU’s artworks from “Flower in Bottle” and “Island” created during the epidemic as her solo exhibition in Japan. “Flower in Bottle” is a series of photographs using various flowers put in the bottle. She compares human beings to flowers that can bloom beautifully in a restricted environment and limited resources. She sealed these most beautiful moments in a bottle and reminded herself to live her life to the fullest and be content, no matter what happens in life. Since COVID-19 broke out, numerous countries were put on lockdown and closed borders. People were forced to stay in their neighborhoods like being stuck in lonely islands. The situation from the world reminded her to re-examine her own life. Furthermore, she synthesizes the footage she retook from daily life photos, which motivates creating “Island.” In the slow flow of time, there are 16 seemingly isolated islands that, upon closer inspection, actually hide seasonal changes and changes in everything. “Fantasy Island in the Reality world” Through her works, we seem to be able to see the fantasy island in our minds, but these seemingly non-existent fragments are every part of the natural world of you and me.
