Women Photographers in Taiwan: Past and Present
PURPLE
3F Shikiamicho bldg. 122-1 Shikiamicho, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto
This talk presents an overview of the history of women photographers in Taiwan, from photographic studios during the Japanese colonial period and postwar photography groups to photographic practices since the 1980s, museum exhibitions, and contemporary international activities. While the development of photographic culture in Taiwan has often been discussed primarily through male photographers, increasing attention has recently been given to the works and activities of women photographers. Through selected examples of artists and exhibitions, the talk examines the historical background and current situation of women’s photography in Taiwan, while briefly referring to developments among women photographers in Japan and reflecting on perspectives surrounding women’s photography.
