#03

Photography + Contemporary Art
Date & Time: May 5 (Mon.) 15:00–16:30
Venue: TIME’S 3F
Lecturer: Keiju Kita

This lecture explores how photography has continually evolved with the times, using the concept of “photographic nature” as a key. As photography intersects with diverse media and contexts—such as digitization, social media, AI, and installation art—contemporary expressions that both exist within and transcend photography are framed as “photographic variants.” Through discussions of the revival of straight photography and post-conceptual practices, the lecture delves into the shifting boundaries of photography and examines its critical significance and potential in the contemporary art world.

Keiju Kita

Born in Tokyo, based in Kanagawa. Contemporary photography researcher, lecturer at T3 PHOTO FESTIVAL TOKYO, Kyoto University of the Arts, and Tokyo College of Photography.
He holds a Ph.D. in Arts from the Graduate School of Arts, Kyoto University of the Arts. His research focuses on photographic expression within contemporary art, particularly through the theme of “POST/PHOTOGRAPHY,” analyzing transformations in photography and conceptualizing these as “photographic variants.” His work explores the expanding boundaries of photography as a medium.
