[Artist Talk "Les Hommes du Désert: Voices of the Shore" + Screening Event "IF I WERE YOU" – A Journey of Collaborative Creation in Photography and Film Across the Sea] A video talk event featuring contemporary artist Eiko Yoshizumi, based in Kyoto, and Polish-born, London-based animation director Izabela Barszcz, who co-created the exhibition piece *Les Hommes du Désert: Voices of the Shore*. The discussion will explore their unique visual expression of animating sequences of countless photographs, the shared theme of the sea in their creative work, and the nature of cross-border collaboration. The screening will **highlight the Japan premiere** of *IF I WERE YOU* (2016), a fashion-show-style stage production collaboratively created by Eiko Yoshizumi and London-based artists, including Izabela Barszcz, during Yoshizumi's time in London. This work, developed through a photoshoot in London with photographer Takeshi Suga, was created in the culturally vibrant and multinational London on the brink of Brexit. It reflects on the potential of international cities shaped by multiculturalism and immigration—a theme that will also be discussed in the talk. Please note that this event features a pre-recorded talk, as Izabela Barszcz will not be able to attend on the event day. [Artist Talk: “*Les Hommes du Désert: Voices of the Shore”* + Sound Performance: “*Voices of the Shore” -Seeing and Hearing]* This event features a live sound performance by musician Molecule Plane (Yuki Ohtsuka), utilizing modular synthesizers to create an improvised composition. The performance incorporates recordings of the waves and coastal sounds from Kotohiki Beach in Kyotango City, where the photographs for the video installation *Les Hommes du Désert: Voices of the Shore*—a work generated from countless sequential photographs—were taken. The performance also includes a recorded reading of “*Ebb and Flow – 寄せてはかへし”*, a poem written by artist Eiko Yoshizumi, inspired by the history of Kotohiki Beach and the Tango region. The video installation itself features wave sounds from Kotohiki Beach, recorded by sound artist Ikuko Morozumi. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience the contrast between the natural ambiance of the waves captured in the installation and Molecule Plane’s live reinterpretation of the same coastal recordings, blending the sound of waves with layered modular synthesis. During the talk event, the speakers will delve into topics such as the process of recording the sounds of the sea, the photography process that generated the video installation from countless sequential images, the meaning behind the word “聲 Voice” in the title, and the shared language of visual and sonic expressions in their creative process.
