フラグメンテーション 4745
Fragmentation 4745 is a multimedia art project by Jocelyn Hoi-Yi Lui, exploring themes of loss, resilience, and healing. The project reflects on the demolition of Jocelyn’s childhood home, where she spent the first 13 years of her life with her grandmother, a figure who profoundly influenced her identity as an artist. The loss of this home and its memories marked an emotional turning point, and this project serves as both a tribute to her grandmother and a process of rebuilding through art. The installation features three elements: 13 handcrafted photograms, darkroom-developed images on ceramic slabs, and a looping video. The photograms integrate found and personal objects, representing distinct eras of Jocelyn’s childhood. The ceramic slabs, shaped like aerial views of the demolished compound, are fired at 871–982°C—a temperature symbolic of cremation—honoring her grandmother’s legacy and the transformation of grief into resilience. These slabs also include soil from Jocelyn’s childhood neighborhood, creating a tangible connection to her past. A looping video projection captures fleeting memories, reflecting the transience of time and the persistence of grief. Fragmentation 4745 is a healing journey. Through art processing loss and reconstructs memory, inviting viewers to reflect on resilience, remembrance, and emotional recovery.
