Life Is Art Is Motherhood Is Art Closing Reception and Artist Talk

Artists Daniela Kostova, Aline Müller, and Satomi Shirai, whose works are featured in Life Is Art Is Motherhood Is Art, will join exhibition curator Christopher Pelham in a conversation exploring the exhibition’s central themes and reimagining parenting as a creative path. Like photographic practice, parenting demands attentiveness, responsiveness to change, and openness to uncertainty—qualities that shape how mother artists frame images, work with time, and attend to what is fragile, unfinished, or easily overlooked. Approaching motherhood as both subject and method, the discussion considers how these artists engage with domestic life, the transforming body, Indigenous communities, and rites of passage. The conversation also reflects on how motherhood offers a lens for addressing wider social realities, ecological crises, and cultural memory. The talk will be conducted in English with consecutive interpretation into Japanese.

Duration: two hours
Japanese, English
Capacity: 30
Free
No reservation required
