Focus of Memory / An Ambiguous Focus
— Wedding Photography as Memory, Not Documentation —
Wedding photography is commonly understood as a form of documentation—an accurate visual record of a ceremonial event.
However, the images that remain with us over time are rarely precise records. Instead, they function as vessels of memory, shaped by emotion and altered through the passage of time.
Focus of Memory / An Ambiguous Focus explores this inherent ambiguity within wedding photography. The exhibition investigates how memories form, shift, and gradually lose their sharpness, transforming photographic images into fragments of recollection rather than fixed documentation.
Elements such as color, light, and sound exist in memory not as stable facts but as fluctuating impressions. These fragments persist, reshaped by time and emotion.
They may not be accurate, but they are not lies.
They may not be factual, yet they remain emotionally true.
Through this perspective, the exhibition quietly questions a fundamental premise of photography:
that before being a record, a photograph is first and foremost a form of memory.
