Things I See: Pause & Notation
"Things I See: Pause & Notation" is a photographic series by Shinya B that gathers moments of perception arising from bodily sensation within the urban environment. Rather than resolving images into fixed meanings, the work holds on to visual moments that remain unsettled, before interpretation fully forms. Through details of the city and chance encounters, the series returns attention to the ways in which seeing is formed, often prior to conscious awareness. In contrast to approaches that frame photography primarily as documentation, representation, or social interpretation, this series turns back to perception itself. Shinya B’s photographs attend to subtle shifts that occur as the body comes into contact with the world, treating photography as a space in which singular, fleeting experiences of seeing can be recorded without closure. Viewers are invited not toward a completed meaning, but to remain with the process through which seeing comes into being.
