Dada
Dada is an exhibition presenting photographs taken by ten fathers as they observe and reflect on their everyday lives.
The participating artists are Shintaro Arase, Keisuke Ishikawa, Hokuto Usami, Taisuke Kayashima, Koji Shintani, Kazumasa Tateshita, Yoichiro Tonomura, Satoru Hirasawa, Hayato Hei, and Kimihiko Horio.
Within each gaze directed toward their children, moments of their own past—when they themselves were once children—quietly overlap, allowing the present and the past of parent and child to gently move back and forth through time.
The word Dada is composed of two identical sounds, “Da” and “da,” placed side by side, yet distinguished visually by uppercase and lowercase forms.
This subtle difference quietly reflects the distance between parent and child—walking close together for a time, yet gradually heading toward separate futures.
The ten photographers press their shutters for different reasons, and their diverse viewpoints, carrying both overlaps and dissonance, give depth to the many forms of fatherhood.
As these ten perspectives resonate with one another, the exhibition moves beyond the private sphere of family and opens onto a shared, universal memory.
