Photographs That Take Form

In an age when photographs are most commonly experienced as digital data, I remain deeply drawn to photographs that take on physical form. Printed photographs, framed works prepared for exhibition, and images that become the covers of books—each acquires a distinct presence. In particular, when a photograph is transferred onto paper, layered with typography, and endowed with the tangible weight of a book, it begins to reveal a beauty that cannot be found in its digital state.

This exhibition originated from a simple wish: to witness people holding photographic works in their hands and spending time with them in the serene lounge of THE GATE HOTEL Kyoto Takasegawa.

Here, the book cover itself becomes the exhibition space. Twelve books, each bearing a photograph as its cover, are available for visitors to pick up freely and carry to any place within the lounge. While someone is reading a book, only the photograph remains quietly on the display table, and the relationship between the work and its viewers shifts continuously.

I hope that the act of reading will open a new point of contact with photographic works, offering an encounter that unfolds through touch, presence, and time.
