Along the approach to Kiyomizu-dera, where tourists from all over the world pass by each day—
what if you were to visit a gallery here and take home the work you encountered as a “memory”?
This exhibition is held in a second-floor gallery attached to Tanaka Chūkindō, a souvenir shop located halfway up the Kiyomizu-dera approach, and is structured in the form of a flea market. With a history of over seventy years, the shop now offers a carefully curated selection of sake, dango, and original tote bags designed by the owner, presenting a character distinct from that of a typical tourist souvenir store. The gallery has previously hosted flea markets of antique and vintage objects organized by the shop owner. Borrowing this format, the present exhibition establishes a “flea market” centered on photography.
Eight artists participate in the exhibition: namimo, Yuko, Jessa’n’ (Yassan), Asano Yuka, Tanaka Miho, Fanny Terno, Nakamura Sayaka, and tomokookaku. Each artist arranges their works on an assigned wall or within a designated area on the floor, constructing their own perspective and world within the singular context of the Kiyomizu approach.
