RAIKA - buds
Raika , a word evoking the moment just before a flower blooms or when a bud swells.
It refers to that period after sowing seeds, when sprouts emerge and swell, filled with the hope that a flower will bloom ahead.
Last year, themed “Sprouting - Returning to the Origin,” it became a four-person exhibition using photographs taken from the daily life of the venue, Myokaku-ji Temple, and each artist's personal records. (Moemi Hashimoto, Katsunari Shishido, KgoKimura, Lisa kimura)
The exhibition became an opportunity to turn our hearts toward that time and place, imagining what kind of flowers we wished to bloom here and what kind of flowers we were waiting to bloom.
For the exhibition “Raika,” Moemi Hashimoto, director of Kura Gallery, Katsunari Shishido, Kura Gallery's official artist, and newly participating photographer Ryohei Nagai joined forces. With the addition of a collaborative work by Shishido and Nagai, the exhibition attempted to bring together three distinct artistic approaches within a single space.
As in the previous year, scenography was handled by Risa Kimura / inoli.
Through year-round activities, it feels as though the buds of this place have gradually swollen, nurtured by Hashimoto, Shishido, and the head priest of Myokakuji Temple. We wish to share this moment and space through KG+, inviting diverse people to witness and feel how Nagai—who has collaborated with Shishido on design work for years—breathes life into this bud, causing it to swell further.
Each captures “Bud Flower” through their own thoughts and senses. Using photography, we create simple expressions that engage the senses.
