Hinode no Hito (People of Sunrise)
“Hinode no Hito (People of Sunrise)” is an exhibition composed of photographic works by Kenji “Noiz” Nakamura, who has spent five years—from Kokuu (Grain Shower)) in 2021—traveling across Japan to photograph sunrises at each of Its twenty-four seasonal divisions, guided by the perspective of the HELIO COMPASS —one of the celestial calendar systems.
The sensation of waiting for dawn in the stillness of these early mornings echoes the artist’s own past experience of standing backstage, anticipating the moment the curtain would rise. As the sun ascends, the landscape transforms in an instant. Its unfolding is free yet taut, like an improvised performance. The lives that move and breathe upon nature’s stage intertwine in layers, emerging as a single narrative within the twilight. This exhibition is a record of those fleeting moments of sunrise, carefully captured and preserved.
