HONOKA IWAKI, TAKESHI SUMI,RURIKO TAGUCHI
The fossil of the sky sea seeks light
An exhibition by three artists, each offering a unique perspective on space and time.
Honoka Iwaki moves between photography and Japanese calligraphy. She creates mobiles that unfurl within the space, composed of fragments of sky photographs and wind-like drawings. While these pieces suggest an expansion of the sky, they also invite the viewer to glimpse a world beyond, as if searching for stars. Swaying with the movement of air and the presence of people, her mobiles evoke a fusion of humanity and nature.
For Takeshi Sumi, time and space reside within hundreds of slits cut into his photographic prints. In a portrait of his grandfather, who witnessed the atomic bombing, light passes through these slits, allowing viewers to encounter the same light he saw eighty years ago. For this exhibition, he also presents new works in the form of an installation.
For Ruriko Taguchi, space expands into the cosmos, while time drifts between existence and void like a waking dream. Fragments of eyes, skin, and hair encased in resin appear as artifacts from another planet. Her combination of mirrors and photographs of the human body possesses a strength that reveals the very essence of the soul, evoking a profound sense of awe.
Through this exhibition, which draws upon the unique atmosphere of a traditional Kyoto machiya, the works interlink to create a world that can only be experienced in this specific place.
