Expansions of Photography presented by SUGATA

At Gallery Sugata, from April 11 to May 24, we are pleased to present an exhibition as part of the KYOTOGRAPHIE International Photography Festival satellite event “KG+,” featuring three artists who are gaining attention in different fields, all centered around photographic expression.

First, we introduce PIDAN, a contemporary artist who has questioned the nature of documentation through installations and performances, exploring diverse methods of preservation and recording beyond photography. This exhibition will present PIDAN’s photographic works.

Next, photographer Satoru Watanabe, who also runs the photography-focused YouTube channel “2B Channel,” presents his new work “Noctchrome,” created during a residency in Yakushima in 2025.

Finally, we present “Reflection of my hands” by photographer Shinpei Asai, who has been at the forefront of advertising photography since the 1960s. Beyond photography, Asai has engaged in a wide range of creative practices including haiku, novels, and glass art. This exhibition showcases the rich trajectory of his multifaceted creative career.

Through the works of these three artists from different generations and with distinct approaches, this exhibition highlights the diverse possibilities of photography as a medium.
