SHITSURAI -Offerings XII- PAUSE
PAUSE…
In contemplative photography, a crucial step to making an image is “understanding one’s perception.
” This means to still the mind, remain present with what is seen, and appreciate its essence.
It is an intentional pause.
It is difficult because our natural tendency is to rush, overthink, become distracted, or to grasp impulsively.
Every year on the island of Bali, one day is set aside for silence—no one speaks, no one works.
It is a day for self-reflection and meditation.
It is called Nyepi, and for the Balinese this pause is essential to maintain balance in their lives and culture. Resetting the heart before moving
Artists and artisans require spaciousness to create, for their work requires slow, focussed engagement.
In our modern world, we hurtle ever faster from one distraction to the next.
Moments and spaces of slow engagement have become more and more rare.
Therefore, for the 12th edition of the Shitsurai-ten, we invite you to take a breath…slow down, relax, and reset.
