Helical Days
This project attempts to deconstruct the daily repetitions of three individuals by reinterpreting the Surrealist method of “automatism” through contemporary video technology. By utilizing images sampled from video footage and entrusting the timing of the capture to the camera, we eliminate the photographer's subjective intent to the greatest extent possible. This process exposes the reality of our unconscious, repetitive routines.
The exhibition presents a vast accumulation of these “fragments of daily life,” displayed across walls and piled onto tables. What becomes evident here is that perfect repetition does not exist; the loop invariably contains minute variations. Even as we go through seemingly identical days, we never return to the exact same place.
Why do we repeat such similar routines? And perhaps, is it not the slight discrepancies within this repetition that truly embody the texture of our existence? Through mechanical recording, this work paradoxically illuminates the raw, irreversible nature of human life.
