Pale Blue Dot
This work is a cyanotype created at the exhibition venue, GALLERY GARAGE.
The traces of time that slowly seep into the fabric and remain as blue under the sunlight feel like the very beginning of our memories—memories without clear outlines.
The faceless white silhouettes seem to represent our original, liberated state: belonging to no one, yet able to become anyone.
On December 6, near the riverside close to the venue, we exposed eight human figures onto fabric—three pieces measuring seven meters, and one measuring six meters.
Although it had been cold enough to snow the day before, that day arrived with a cloudless sky, perfect for exposure.
That morning, I shared a message with everyone:
“The living shadows of your bodies that will be imprinted onto the fabric will overlap with each of your memories and with fragments of someone else’s past time.
Without lenses or cameras, they will be burned in as light itself.
Behind the fact that we are alive here and now lies a long continuum of prayers and hopes, conflicts, countless emotions, and time passed from one person to another.
I am deeply grateful for the miracle that we are able to meet here today as part of that vast flow.
I believe that fully receiving, feeling, preserving, and connecting this ‘now’ with our whole bodies becomes an act of respect toward both the past and the future.
May this moment we share together in this place—small like a blue dot—become a light passed forward to the future.”
Afterward, I add color to the works and layer time upon them.
It is like editing memory itself.
