Unreal-Real —Cycle of rebirth—
A two-person exhibition featuring photographer Peng-Chun YEN and visual artist Mika KAN. YEN's "After World" is a series of photographs taken at Yeliou Geopark. Inspired by the area's distinctive rock formations, the series expresses an unknown and uncertain parallel world. His "Universal Signals" is another series that finds cosmic symbols in everyday objects. What appear to be nebulas or planets are actually oil slicks spreading across the ground or the scorched bottoms of electric pots. Mika KAN’s “The Ghost in the Doll" centers on the series “Pre-alive Photography”, where she uses collodion wet-plate process photography to capture reborn dolls in a style reminiscent of post-mortem photographies. Originally presented in her 2019 solo exhibition at the Maruki Gallery for the Hiroshima Panels, this series reexamines the mass destruction of war as a collection of individual deaths. By displaying the works of these two artists side by side, this exhibition explores the possibility of discovering new life beyond death.
