OZAKI Midori, KITAMURA Yukika
Waving Slash /
Let's think deeply about a waving cloth. The image of the water surface depicted by OZAKI Midori using printmaking techniques, or the image of bedding output by KITAMURA Yukika. In their respective techniques, these artists share the practice of “copying” and “overlapping” two elements. They incorporate themes of production that address the realms of subjectivity/objectivity, self/other (world), and fiction/reality, along with motifs that suggest movement. However, the slash[/]s inserted here are not intended to be used as a means of dividing the two worlds. Rather, in the case of Osaki, it is the work itself, and in the case of Kitamura, it is the work group that sways, evoking a subtle topography and time in the viewer's consciousness. It is as if the cloth were to rise up, and the cross-section were to change from a straight line to a curve. When the front and back intersect while the boundary remains continuous, the work will present us with an ambivalent sphere.
