Niseacacia #10 / SHAPES of TIME
Niseacacia Press is an ongoing collective activity that started in 2011, centered around members who learned under the workshop "Suda Juku," led by photographer Kazumasa Suda. Their primary focus has been the publication of the photo zine Niseacacia. For this exhibition and the release of the new edition Niseacacia #10 / SHAPES of TIME, the members present their individual explorations of time, through the photographic act of temporarily halting its flow. Each artist offers their own interpretation of the shape of time they have discovered. Tatsuro Ito confronts the massive rocks of an island that are revered as objects of faith, capturing the layered time from ancient pasts through the lens of the present. Seiji Hayashi finds subtle poetry in the unchanging view from his window, which he gazed at during his time of seclusion. Koichi Matsumoto observes the fleeting events that arise and pass in everyday life within the limits of a 30-minute photography session. Taku Misaki reconstructs photos taken from the window of a commuter train at a later time, approaching them from a different perspective and reinterpreting them as a narrative in the past tense. Yashi Yashi, in focusing on the growth of her child as a mother, discovers her own evolving sense of self.
