Starry sky over Amami ~ Light reaching the Earth ~
Amami is a humid island with the least amount of sunshine in the country. A biodiversity-rich island registered as a World Natural Heritage Site. Masahiro Araki says that another world heritage site in Amami, which has a lunar calendar culture, is the starry sky. Why did he stay in Amami instead of going elsewhere, even though there were few sunny days? "The starry sky that can be seen for a moment. The path of the moon. The starry sky covered in clouds. The galaxy that can be seen. We are in a galaxy." he says. He is currently working on a project to preserve the starry skies of Amami as a photo story. There is too much artificial light in today's world. Before we knew it, we had begun to reject the light that reaches Earth from space. He says that message of light can still be received in Amami. The exhibition will also feature a scene of moonlight reaching Earth.
