Modern society is dominated by visual evaluation, and physical presence tends to take precedence. However, intangible things such as scents, memories, and emotions may have an invisible yet profound power. Scent is a beauty that can be felt even when the eyes are closed, and has the power to bring past moments and emotions vividly to life. Memories of a lover, the scent of a family member, or the memory of a journey are all experiences deeply rooted in an individual's memory that can be vividly sensed through scent. Photography has the power to capture a moment, but this work approaches the invisible sensory presence that lurks in that moment. Using perfume as a medium, the artist, Mai Ito, touches upon the existence of the intangible, overlapping it with her own memories and emotions, in an experimental attempt to visualize the healing and memory power of intangible beauty and its sensory presence beyond the visual. This exhibition explores the profound power of fragrance and the sensory world projected by its intangible beauty.
