Les Hommes du Désert : The Voice of Seashore
"Les Hommes du Désert" is a multimedia artwork series by Kyoto-based contemporary artist Eiko Yoshizumi. The fourth installment, “Voices of the Shore”, is a collaborative work with London-based Polish-born animation artist Izabela Barszcz. Yoshizumi's continuous shooting of over 4,000 photos of the sea, Kotobikihama in Kyotango City, and co-created ink paintings are integrated and developed into a silent film-like video work by Barszcz. The piece is presented as an immersive projection installation. Exploring the potential of photographic expression as an art form, the artists breathe soul—anima—into a series of photographs, and animation is born. This series explores common symbols that once united a seemingly divided world, focusing on depicting the bull as a deity across various civilizations and myths. This installment uses the sea, a connector of worlds, as its theme, portraying the connections beyond the ocean. Through cross-border collaboration between two artists, the artwork embodies this central theme.
