Daiki Tsuji

The Empty Bodies

Tsuji questions the notion of the "self" as a consistent and singular entity. According to him, the self fluctuates depending on the surrounding environment and social circumstances and is never fixed. However, we often behave as if the self is absolute and unchanging, which can make it difficult for us to accept differences and diversity in others. Particularly in contemporary Japan, there is a tendency to choose indifference over embracing diversity, which can be seen as a form of self-defense to avoid conflict. This multi-channel video installation, utilizing a "gesture relay game", prompts us to reconsider the fluidity of the self and its boundaries as we navigate life as individuals. This exhibition encourages each of us to perceive the shifts in our sense of self and to redefine our points of connection with others.
