In 2025, while traveling across Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, I encountered a wide range of people: photographers, practitioners of photography, those who engage in photography, those who view it, and even those who think through photographic perspectives. What we see in the present does not necessarily form a strong context or become historicized. However, as the word and way of seeing called “photography” continues to transform like a living organism, I find it important to grasp movements in photography not simply as “contemporary,” but rather as “contemporaries”—grounded in a more personal scale and embracing multiplicity as a method of approaching one another.

Through this talk series, we propose the importance of understanding social phenomena through individuals who share a sense of contemporaneity and personal histories. Editing, as a method, is a common thread that emerged through encounters during these journeys. We hope that the questions generated throughout this series will lead to new journeys, weaving together future contexts.
