KG+ SELECT 10 YEARS, 10 ARTISTS: Cross Talk #1 — Tomomi Morita, Jianxiang Gu, Seiyu Liu

To commemorate the publication of the photo book celebrating the 10th anniversary of the KG+ SELECT Award, we are hosting a cross talk featuring past award winners.
The discussion will explore how these photographers have progressed from winning the KG+ Award to showcasing at KYOTOGRAPHIE and beyond—sharing their insights on what it means to live as a photographer today.

Event Details
If you wish to attend, please gather at the reception on the 1st floor of TIME’S 15 minutes before the event starts.
After the event, there will be a book signing session with the artists.

Speakers

Tomomi Morita (KG+ AWARD 2017 Winner)
Born in Kyoto in 1994, Morita is a photographer who holds an MFA in Intermedia Art from Tokyo University of the Arts. Since relocating to Minamata in 2019, he has continued documenting its reclaimed bay, inlets, and capes.
Major exhibitions include:
– Two Rivers, KG+ 2017 (Former Junpu Elementary School, Kyoto)
– Sanrizuka – Then and Now –, KYOTOGRAPHIE 2018 (Horikawa Oike Gallery, Kyoto)
– Kyoto Art for Tomorrow 2020 (The Museum of Kyoto)
– A Certain Window (Studio 04, Tokyo, 2023)
– Scenery of Prayer: Lake Biwa and Minamata Bay (Shiga, 2024)

Jianxiang Gu (KG+ AWARD 2018 Winner)
Born in Kyoto in 1994 and raised in Shanghai, Gu graduated from Kyoto University of the Arts (formerly Kyoto University of Art and Design), majoring in Contemporary Art and Photography. He also studied at ENSP Arles in France during his time as a student.
Now based in Kyoto, his major solo exhibitions include:
– 15972 Sampling, KYOTOGRAPHIE 2019 (Sfera, Kyoto)
– A PART OF THERE IS HERE (YUKI MOMIZUTANI GALLERY, 2021)
– Aperto 18: Intervals of the Afterimage (21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, 2023)
– Dimensions Unseen (Yumiko Chiba Associates, 2024)

Seiyu Liu (KG+ SELECT Award 2024 Winner / KYOTOGRAPHIE 2025 Artist)
Born in 1985 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Liu holds a master’s degree from National Kaohsiung Normal University.
His work centers on agriculture, ecosystems, and gender equality. To Liu, photography is not only a tool of creation but also a participatory medium—an intersection of thoughtfulness and playfulness that brings attention to these issues.
Beyond his role as an artist, Liu is also a critic, curator, and founder of the art collective Walking Grass Agriculture. He actively engages diverse audiences, challenges conventional perspectives, and skillfully draws out the unique qualities of each medium.
In 2018, he was nominated for the Global Gender Impact Awards and also received the Taipei Art Awards, Taipei International Photo Awards, and Taipei Free Art Award.
He participated in Cosmopolis #2: Rethinking the Human at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
